Hugh Costello’s radio drama Redacted, first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in August 2017, will be rebroadcast four times on Radio 4 Extra on Monday 12th January, at 6pm, 11am, 5pm and 1am.
Redacted is the story of Jonathan, a senior civil servant who redacts 30-year-old confidential state documents before they are made public. When he discovers his wife’s name on an urgent memo to the Prime Minister, he is forced to make the toughest decision of his life.
Hugh is a prolific writer for radio, having written close to 40 dramas, and has been described in the Daily Mail as “one of radio’s great playwrights”. His most recent five-part drama, The Betrayed, aired on BBC Radio 4 in October 2025. For screen, Hugh’s work includes the screenplay for Emmy nominated Bernard & Doris starring Ralph Fiennes and Susan Sarandon.
