Alice Allan grew up in rural Devon. She studied English Literature at Cambridge University while acting and writing for Footlights. After a few years as a jobbing actress she learnt Japanese and moved to Japan with her FCO husband and roles in cult Japanese feature films and TV commercials ensued. She returned to England and following the birth of her two daughters she spent four years in Ethiopia working as a Lactation Consultant. The novel she is currently working on is set in an Addis Ababa neonatal ward and is inspired by her experiences.
