Andrew Alty has written extensively for theatre, radio and television. His first play, The Left-over Heart won the Charringtons Award for Best First Play in 1993 and was subsequently broadcast on Radio 3. His theatre work since then has included Asylum (Royal Court Theatre 1993), Something About Us (Lyric Hammersmith 1995) and The Road to Hell (Birmingham Repertory 1996). Andrew was Writers Tutor at the Royal Court from 1993-1995 and Writer-in-Residence at the Soho Theatre in 1994.
Andrew’s original play for radio, Buried Treasure was broadcast on Radio 4 in 1996, and he has recently delivered a new piece for radio, Halfway to Heaven (producer Marc Beeby). He has written five episodes of The Bill.
He is founding Artistic Director of the Arts Council funded Fast Forward Theatre Company, based in South Yorkshire which has specialised in creating new work by and for young people since 1995.
He is currently the Creative Learning Projects Manager at New Wimbledon Theatre.
Andrew currently divides his time between his native South Yorkshire and his home in South East London.
