Ten years ago Geoff Deane created the characters and story of Kinky Boots, inspired by a BBC documentary featuring a Northampton shoemaker who diversified his business by making fetish footwear. To create this great British comedy Geoff devised the face of this sexual underworld, the fabulous drag queen Lola, whose wardrobe malfunctions reveal a brand new market – a market that might just save a family business.
Now Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper have taken Kinky Boots to New York City! The show opens on the 4th April 2013 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre: http://www.kinkybootsthemusical.com
Geoff also wrote It’s A Boy Girl Thing (Rocket Pictures/Prospero Pictures 2006) is currently working with Rocket Pictures again on Pig Scrolls, based on the 2004 novel by Paul Shipton. Other feature projects include What the Puck (Ealing Films) and Ska Wars (Starchild Pictures).
Geoff’s original comedy series Messy is in development with Hartswood Films. His brand new comedy half-hour Beauty in the World peers through the eyes of two very loveable oddballs and his family comedy series Mann Up looks at what has become of the modern ‘family man’. Both projects are currently available.
