We’re delighted that Helen Black’s LIFE AND DEATH IN THE WAREHOUSE has been nominated in the Television Drama category at the BAFTA Cymru Awards 2022.
Helen’s single film for BBC Studios aired on BBC Three in March 2022.
Life and Death in the Warehouse is a hard-hitting exploration of working conditions in distribution centres, a world shrouded in secrecy where warehouse workers are subjected to a gruelling work regime and obsessive monitoring.
The Guardian said of Helen’s drama “it’s hard to imagine that new screenwriter Helen Black’s punchy fact-based drama Life and Death in the Warehouse won’t help shift every viewer’s individual dial to walk to an independent shop next time they need something.
It’s a grim story of the behind-the-scenes work that provides us consumers with a life of unparalleled convenience… The point is to showcase as many injustices as powerfully as possible – by individualising systemic wrongs and making concrete intangible violations – of the spirit, of the social contract, of the endlessly unedifying effects of untrammelled capitalism.”
Helen spent over 10 years as a criminal lawyer before becoming a novelist. She won a Kudos North Award for her first screenplay GALAXY and now has several original television dramas in development.
The Bafta Cymru 2022 Awards will be announced in a special ceremony on Sunday 9th October, and will be available to watch live on BAFTA’s YouTube channel.
Life and Death in The Warehouse is available to watch on iPlayer now.
Helen Black is represented by Frances Arnold.
