Nancy Harris

Nancy Harris is an award-winning writer from Dublin who lives in London.

Nancy was recently nominated for the BAFTA Writer award in the Comedy category for The Dry which she wrote and created.  It is an 8 x 30’ series directed by Paddy Breathnach (Element Films for Britbox, RTE). She also served as EP.  The second series is in production.  The first series won two IFTA awards for Ciaran Hinds and Sarah Lynch (five nominations).  (The Dry is showing on ITVX in UK.)

Nancy also writes extensively for the theatre.  A new play, SOMEWHERE OUT THERE YOU, begins rehearsals for the Abbey Theatre/Dublin Festival on 14 August and opens from 24 September. 

Her most recent plays include a new musical The Magician’s Elephant (based on the book by Kate diCamillo) for which she wrote the book and co-wrote lyrics with composer Marc Teitler, which opened at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford upon Avon in 2021/22; Two Ladies at the Bridge Theatre, London directed by Nicholas Hytner and The Beacon for Druid, Galway and the Gate Theatre, Dublin, directed by Garry Hynes. 

She is a past recipient of The Stewart Parker Award for playwriting and The Rooney Prize for Irish Literature.

Nancy wrote two episodes of the Channel 4 series DATES for Balloon/C4, directed by Charles Sturridge and starring Sheridan Smith for which she was nominated for BAFTA Breakthrough Talent Award.
