Orlando Wells’ new adaptation of The Duke in Darkness, a largely forgotten play by Patrick Hamilton – the author of the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Rope, will run at the Tabard Theatre from 16th April-11th May.
In The Duke in Darkness, France is in the grip of long and bloody civil wars. A Duke and his servant, incarcerated for fifteen years, plot their escape and dream of freedom. But in this world of conspiracy and paranoia, where no one is quite who they seem, what will one man sacrifice for his chance of survival?
The play first premiered in 1943 with Michael Redgrave, and Wells’ adaptation will mark its first return to London theatres in 60 years.
Orlando Wells is represented by Rochelle Stevens.
