Colin MacDonald has written a new five-part drama-documentary series narrated by Jack Lowden.
In 1745 an ambitious young prince lands in Scotland from France. He has no military experience, but he’s determined to risk his life and the lives of thousands of Highland clansmen who support him.
His mission? To conquer Scotland and England.
Born in exile in Rome, the prince has never set foot in Britain before, but he believes it is his destiny to change the course of history and restore the Catholic Stuarts as the ruling monarchy of Great Britain.
This full-cast dramatisation by Colin includes expert commentary from historians, and a specially commissioned soundtrack composed by Duncan Chisholm.
A trailer for Pretender Prince will be available today on BBC Sounds.
Episode One of Pretender Prince will tx on R4 next Friday 16th May at 2:15pm, with subsequent episodes released weekly.
All episodes will be available to listen to on BBC Sounds on Friday 16th May.
Colin’s short film Survivor, funding by the Imperial War Museum and the Iolaire Trust was filmed late last year. Colin’s other work for Radio 4 includes the five-part series An Eye For A Killing (also narrated by Jack Lowden) and six series of Shardlake, adaptations of C J Sansom’s historical mystery novels.
