Screen Ireland’s Focus Shorts 2025

John Morton will be directing Mom Friends, a short film selected for Screen Ireland’s Focus Shorts 2025!

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland have announced the 10 successful projects for the 2025 Focus Shorts, Screen Ireland’s flagship short film scheme.

Mom Friends will tell the story of a struggling new mother lured into a too-perfect Mum group that offers her encouragement and creativity – until she discovers their bloody secret and must decide whether to join their ranks or stay with her sabotaging husband.

Mom Friends will be written by Mairead Kiernan, directed by John Morton and produced by Aoibhín Murphy.

Congratulations to the Mom Friends team for being selected for Focus Shorts!

John previously directed Smitten for RTE’s Storyland and is currently writing feature film Pillgate for New Grange Films, and a pilot, Bluebell Fields, for Honest Arts. His original six-part series Dead Still was made with Deadpan Pictures for RTE/Acorn TV. John’s play Denouement, will have its premiere at the Lyric Belfast in October.
