John Morton is a core member of The Devious Theatre Company, who have been selected as Watergate Theatre’s Artists in Residence for 2026 – 2028.
The Devious Theatre Company are an award-winning artist collective, founded in Kilkenny in 2006. Their work spans theatre, film, radio, comedy and site-specific performance.

Thanks to Watergate, Devious Theatre recently workshopped The Folklore Commission, a new play by John Morton and Peter McGann, and directed by Sarah Baxter – the makers of The Hellfire Squad and The Roaring Banshees.
John is an actor, writer and filmmaker. His play Denouement had its world premiere at Lyric Theatre Belfast in October 2025. He is the creator and writer of the TV series Dead Still, for which he won an Edgar Award for Best TV Episode Teleplay.
